Silence Surged Softly

Silence Surged Softly

AL LACHMAN | HARMONY

Life is a tapestry of experiences and emotions. It is a journey we are all on. And while our experiences may vary, it is sure to encompass a full range of human emotions. For me, it started some eighty-five years ago (my Mom said I popped out with a brush in my hand). There were only a few things I could do well, and drawing was one of them. So I set out to become an artist about seventy years ago. It ran the gamut of human experiences and emotions, from eating peanut butter sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, and dinner early in my career, to working all my adult life from nine to nine, seven days a week. I am driven…I paint every day that I am home.

One could ask why?  What drives me at that unrelenting pace?

And the answer is two reasons: The first is that I LOVE IT!  Painting incurs all aspects of human emotions, from chaos and frustration to a soul-filling love of what I have accomplished. The second is that I am very fortunate in that I sell my paintings, somewhere around 5,000 throughout the course of my career, and so I must create enough artwork for people to view and acquire in my gallery, website and on the internet.

Our upcoming 67th Annual Exhibition ‘Harmony’ reflects on this emotion as it relates to society, and of course, me as well. We all seek harmony in our lives, even if it is fleeting, and we keep seeking it because it fills our soul.  In Art, it is an eternity.  For an artist to accomplish this, it would surely be a high moment in their lives.

And this is my goal as an artist…to create a harmonious moment in my painting, each and every time.

And so here I am at eighty-five years old, showing my new work.

I have slowed up some, but I am still kicking.
